This week I am taking off on a trip to Boston, followed by Switzerland, and have a wonderful book to read and study on the plane; ” I’d rather be in the studio” by Alyson B. Stanfield. Alyson is a Colorado based art coach and has some very useful suggestions on marketing and staying organized. My airplane design was licensed for a collection of juvenile scrap-booking albums.
last night I attended the opening of the Colorado Springs Arts Guild art show. Local artists were showing their work, one of my friends Laura Gangi Pond was showing two pieces of photography; I particularly liked the cowboy image. The venue was the Warehouse Restaurant and Gallery where a few of us had a really good dinner and a lot of laughs after the show. This piece is a floral appliqué illustration, that was licensed for gift wrap and bags.
I usually exhibit my work at national design shows, but some of my pieces could transition into fine art as “mixed media”.
This project was really fun; I painted a mural in my bedroom as a sample, as I am expanding my business into new areas of juvenile art. Simple shapes arranged in a playful way around the window are working well in a small room; I will update my blog as I paint new areas of the house.
This week-end I just finished uploading images onto creativeshake.com. This one is a scrap-booking album design.
I look forward to hearing from other designers about their experiences on this web portfolio site. So far learning the ways of web marketing has been an interesting journey.
Last week I hosted a garden tour at my home, which was part of a tour of six gardens in our Historic neighborhood. My specialty is using plants that do well with little water, as I live in a semi-arid region.
A good book to read about this is “Xeriscape Colorado” by Connie Ellefson and David Winger.
This painting is now displayed in Mountain Moppets, a children’s boutique in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The acrylic on canvas image emulates murals as well as wall decor. The store is in a charming historic part of the city, and carries unique clothing.
