Chaco Canyon

I recently took a camping trip with some friends to Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. It’s the most amazing historic site, containing Native American ruins that are over a thousand years old. The ancient Pueblo People created buildings out of sandstone blocks, that are believed to have mainly been used for ceremonial purposes. The people recorded their lives with petroglyphs on the face of the stones; of course one does not know the meaning of all of them, but their mystery and beauty has been a source of inspiration. I have been sketching pages in oil pastels on colored paper, to capture the impact these mystical images have had on me.Petroglyphs4
